Situated in the relaxed and friendly town of Numurkah, Dubuque was constructed in 1887 and has been home to only two families.

John Claude Trengrove
John was born on 28 January 1848 in Truro, Cornwall. He was brought as an infant to Australia. His parents settled in Geelong where his boyhood and early manhood was spent. He served his apprenticeship in the drapery store of Bright & Hitchcock, and was so highly esteemed by his employers that they sent him to their London house.
Leaving there, he went to America, where he met and married Ms. Sara Jane Barnett. In the great fire of Chicago they lost all of their possessions, they then came to Australia.
John Claude died on 10 October 1929 at Dubuque in Numurkah, Victoria, at the age of 81.
Sara Jane Barnett
When Sara Jane Trengrove was born on 20 December 1853 in Hazel Green, Wisconsin, USA, her father, George, was 40, and her mother, Jane, was 38.
She married John Claude Trengrove on 25 March 1873 in her hometown. They migrated to Geelong, Australia where they would begin their family. Later in 1887, they moved to Numurkah and built what was to be their family residence, Lakeview (now known as Dubuque).
Over 20 years they had 9 children together. The first 3 of Sara's children, George, Edwin & Emily Sara, passing away within a year of their own birth. Following this she gave birth to Charles Thomas (born in Terrick Terrick), Mabel Clarissa (Shepparton), Susan Amy (Numurkah), Elizabeth Martha (Numurkah), John Wester (Numurkah) and lastly Eloise Alice (Fairmont, USA).
Sara Jane died on 31 December 1941 at Dubuque in Numurkah, Victoria, at the age of 88.
Charles Thomas Trengrove
Charles was born in Terrick, Terrick on February 19th 1878. He married Katherine Howard in 1900 and had one son ' Howard Barnett' in 1904. Charles passed away in 1949 in East Melbourne.
Mabel Clarissa & Susan Amy Trengrove
We don't have alot of history on these 2 middle children, no photo's or information about their lives. It is presumed that they did not marry or have any children and spent their lives living here in Numurkah.
Mabel was born on July 14, 1881, in Shepparton. She died on April 18, 1965, in Numurkah, at the age of 83.
Susan was born on January 16, 1885, in Numurkah. She died on March 22, 1976, in Numurkah, at the age of 91.

Elizabeth Martha Trengrove
Elizabeth was born on the 11th of September 1887 in Numurkah.
She married Mr. Henry Hosker Moss on September 7th 1921 in Numurkah. Together they had 2 children, Elizabeth Isobel 'Betty' born in 1923 and John Henry 'Jack' born in 1925.
Unfortunately Elizabeth's husband passed away soon after their children were born, in 1926, leaving her a widower for her remaining years! Elizabeth died on the 3rd of July 1964 in Numurkah.

John was born on April 16, 1889, in Numurkah.
He married Margaret Louisa Meiklejohn on March 15, 1911, in his hometown.
They had two children during their marriage, Margaret Elizabeth (1912) and Elizabeth May (1914).
He died as a young father on October 31, 1918, in Harefield, New South Wales, at the age of 29.
Eloise was born in Fairmont, United States (we are not sure what the family were doing back over in the US) on the 10th of January 1894.
Eloise married a Numurkah man, Charles Cecil Moss in Numurkah on February 1922. They had 3 children together, Lawrence, Charles and Joan.
Eloise died on October 20th 1944 in Numurkah from TB.
